“In reference to the musicality and cadence the works impressed upon me,  [this series] draws inspiration from my native Brazil's musical genre bossa nova. The term "bossa" referred to an aesthetic reformulation and a new way of doing things, based on the balance of simplicity and dissonance.”

Marina Esmeraldo is an artist from Brazil, based between Barcelona & London. Her work draws on her tropical upbringing, from a modernist training in Architecture and the artist’s innate wanderlust. Seeking to capture the essence of memories and travels through colour and composition are central to her approach. Marina creates abstract landscapes from recollection and observation, inviting the viewer to lose themselves in the snapshots of her memory and imagination.

Marina develops her personal artwork for exhibitions as well as commissioned illustrations and collaborations with select brands and publications. Her work has been exhibited around the world, including the Venice Biennale. She has given talks and been awarded honours in Europe, the U.K., the U.S. and Latin America.
